About Filmbase

A crew-run platform where HODs can find crew and where crew can find jobs

Created by crew, for crew

Filmbase is a crew-run platform, created by crew working in scripted film and HETV in the UK industry. We wanted to build a hub where we could all find jobs, find crew and network.

Currently we support crew who work in the Art, Set Decoration, Props and Prop Modelling departments. Our 2,500+ members include some of the most experienced crew in the industry; and we also support people who are new to the industry, providing an entry point where they can make contacts and get their first jobs.

Our aim is to make TV and film jobs more accessible and to help recruiters reach a wider talent pool. We encourage employers to look further afield for crew, beyond the traditional hiring strategy of 'it's who you know'.

Job Alerts

We're a membership website and most of our members join up because of our unique Job Alerts system. We email our members Job Alerts whenever a production is crewing up. So, for instance, if the Supervising Art Director on the latest Marvel film tells us they need a Draughtsperson, we’ll email the crew on our database who are qualified for that particular role.

The advantage for crew is that they get a fair chance to apply for jobs that in the past were never advertised publicly. In an industry that previously crewed solely by word of mouth, this has been a game-changer.

Filmbase is free to use for the person hiring, to encourage them to use our platform. By using Filmbase to find crew, they reach more potential candidates, yet they can trust our database to give them quality candidates only. We vet our members’ experience so that if someone says, for instance, that they’re an experienced Coordinator, they have the credits to prove it. If you're crewing up and would like to try our free crew-finder system, click here.

Filmbase membership

We would love to have Filmbase free to use for everyone and we're always looking for a way to make this happen. To cover the cost of maintaining the website, Filmbase members pay a small annual fee. The latest fees can be found on our 'Join Us' page here. To ensure that the Job Alerts are widely accessible, it's our intention to keep the fees as low as possible,

Part of the reason we can keep our membership fee at this level is thanks to the support of our Partners this year, Data Reprographics and Compuhire

The amount of Job Alerts we send out depends on how busy this very seasonal industry is, so to make the membership (even more!) worthwhile all year round, we have further membership benefits, including:

  • Monthly webinars offering practical careers advice;
  • WhatsApp groups, for specific crew roles, for job-sharers, for props re-use and more;
  • Crew Directory, a database searchable by other members, so that Heads of Department can browse, for instance, the leading Assistant Set Decorators who are currently available for work;
  • Suppliers Directory, a go-to list for crew of the “best and most reliable” film and TV specialist suppliers, as recommended by our members;
  • Networking sessions: in-person events, bringing together senior and junior crew;
  • Industry advice: our team is always on hand to offer advice via our Helpdesk and our website is constantly updated with articles supporting our members with advice or industry updates;
  • Filmbase is a lobbying organisation and we use our strong links with Bectu and other industry organisations to fight the corner of our members where we can. Crew safety and a standardised ratecard are just two of the things we've lobbied hard for. We also co-organised a Set Decoration Summit in 2023, bringing together hundreds of Set Dec crew to discuss a range of issues.

Despite the pandemic and 2023 US strikes, we have sent out more than 1,500 Job Alerts to crew since our launch in 2020. You can have a look at the kinds of job we've listed on our Instagram page, which also shows you our previous webinar topics and other events we've put on.

As crew members, we know first-hand that the industry can have its ups and downs, and whether you're just starting out or well-established in your career, our aim is to support you.

We have more info on our FAQs page.

If you'd like to join, you can do so here.

If you have any questions, please send us an email. Our Helpdesk team replies daily.
