Our next Filmbase session is with highly experienced Supervising Art Director and Production Designer Tom Brown. 

Tom started out as an Assistant in the early 1980s and gained credits in all the Art Department roles. He has worked extensively as a Supervising Art Director and a Production Designer since the 1990s. 

Tom will be talking to us about his career over the last 40 years, how to get started in the Art Department now, which skills he looks for when hiring Art Department crew and how to find jobs and keep working in these tricky times. 

Tom is particularly keen to nurture traditional hand drafting and will be talking to us about the value of learning this 'traditional' skill alongside digital drafting. We'll be asking Tom how Filmbase members can develop their own hand drafting, and where it can be applied when designing sets, at a time when Rhino and Vectorworks are often the most encouraged skills.

This session is for all Filmbase members interested in working in the Art Department, from those getting started, to experienced crew developing their skills and careers.

We’ll be talking to Tom from 1.15pm to 1.45pm on Friday 11 September, over Zoom.
